Is there a difference between a stock broker and a investment banker?

If I call someone a stock broker when they are actually an investment banker, would I be making myself look like an idiot?

An investment banker, among other things, underwrites new issues of stock when they are first sold to the public in an IPO.

The stockbrokers are the sales force. They sell the stock to the public. If they are part of the syndicate they sell the IPO. Or they sell it in the secondary market.

    yeah, they are different.

A broker just deals with retail client.

An I-banker deals with corporations (eg, merging companies, IPO’s, etc.)

Mainly, stock brokers help you with the purchase of buying and selling stocks.
Investment bankers usually provide liquidity in the bond markets. Meaning they usually broker bonds, or IPO’s for stock.
